“Reduce, reuse and recycle” are longstanding watchwords of environmentalism. This month’s Conscientious Projector selection Racing to Zero: In Pursuit of Zero Waste invites us as citizens and communities to take these essential practices even further by considering what we throw away as “resources” rather than “garbage” and finding new solutions to the global problem of waste.

Filmmakers Diana Fuller and Christopher Beaver’s inspiring, informative film focuses on San Francisco’s innovative zero waste program, which is on schedule to meet its goal of a 100% waste-free city by 2020. Similar projects have been initiated in cities around the U.S., including Pasadena and Los Angeles.  This forward-leaning documentary will screen on Thursday, August 13, 7:00 p.m. at Armory Center for the Arts.

A community discussion follows the film. The Armory is located at 145 N. Raymond in Old Pasadena. Admission is free and the facility is accessible to disabled persons.
